New Products
Blockchain Gaming on a Roll
🕹️ There is no stopping the flow of capital into web3 gaming. Mysten Labs closed $140MM of their Series B led by FTX at a $2Bn valuation to build dapp infrastructure including the gaming sector. Animoca Brands is a leading investor in NFT gaming, and they also own the Sandbox metaverse game. They brought in another $75MM at a whopping $5.9Bn valuation this week. Lastly, Klang Games added $41MM for their virtual world game.
Sports Continue to Embrace NFTs
⚽ One of the cooler initiatives in web3 sports is WAGMI United in the UK. A DAO was formed to buy and fund a lower division soccer club with a goal to buy there way up the ranks. The team did their first NFT sale this week and netted GBP 3.1MM ($3.7MM) from fans across the globe. Additionally, the NFL announced a major expansion to their commemorative NFT ticket program. They did a small test run last season, but for 2022 fans will have opportunities to get 100+ NFT tickets.
Sports Metaverse by SportsIcon
🎉 OK, I’ll say it straight upfront, I’m pushing one of my own portfolio companies. I have to do it because this one is great. SportsIcon is a leader in the web3 sports space. They have worked with top athletes like Floyd Mayweather, Michael Vick, Romelu Lukaku, and more. This week they launched their Sports Metaverse, and they are selling virtual land to fans today. Capital Raised
More VC Cash for Web3
💰 Even with the selloff in the Crypto markets, web3 venture firms continue to close jumbo funds. Multicoin is a top 10 player in the space, they just added a new $430MM fund. Protagonist is a new fund from two Solana developers, they raised $100MM this week. We also saw an announcement from venture giant Lightspeed Venture Partners of $7Bn in new capital with a plan for a new team focused on early-stage blockchain projects.
