Amari Ruff Memik on Diverse Web3 Builders
On Diverse Web3 Builders, we speak to Black, Latinx, and Women founders creating new companies in the web3 space. Today, we feature Amari Ruff of Memik, an augmented reality startup changing the game for content creators.
Amari moved around a lot when younger before coming to Atlanta for high school. He’s a serial entrepreneur with multiple founding roles under his belt. After college, he built a successful business doing telecom installations. When he sold that business, he next built and scaled a technology marketplace in the trucking industry called Sudu.
After his second business sale, Amari made the move to the Metaverse with Memik. One of his investors from Sudu had laid the groundwork with some avatar technology, and he reached out to Amari to see if they could grow a viable business model.
One of Memik’s biggest win since launching was participating in the Niantic’s Black Developers Initiative. Niantic created the wildly popular Pokémon Go mobile phone, location-based game. The company has opened a software developer kit to allow companies like Memik to create on top of their location technology. You can see Memik’s tech live at the Atlanta Trap Museum now.
Memik has launched programs to partner with brands to activate dancing avatars on mobile phones using augmented reality.
